You are correct, and I have corrected the post. My history of mathematics course is just a dim recollection now, obviously a little too dim. Gauss made significant advances in multivariate calculus and in statistics, but it was Newton and Leibniz who invented calculus (co-existence in timeframe, but not in location or intent).
